I was first introduced to Reiki over a year ago through my work with Neals Yard Rememdies. I’d heard of it before but wasn’t entirely sure what it was or what it entailed. So when my friend Lou said that a Level 1 Reiki course was going to be held locally specifically for Neals Yard Consultants, I jumped at the chance.
I’m not sure why I was so keen, as this couldn’t get any more left field for me but it felt right.
The course was a game-changer for me, I’d not felt anything like it. It was then, my journey deeper into spirituality began.
My endless quest for the truth, to find some meaning in life, to feel a connection I had felt so bereft from in the past became, I felt, that little bit closer.
So what is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word and is pronounced ‘Ray-key’ and is translated as:
“Universal Life Force Energy”
- Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive relaxation and stress reduction technique
- Reiki is an energy, which affects all of the energies which comprise the human body, animals and anything else in the natural world.
- Reiki acts as a holistic system for balancing and harmonising all aspects of a person – Mind, Body and Spirit
- Reiki can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth.
What Reiki is NOT
- Reiki is not a religion
- It is not a replacement for medical treatment
- It is not a cure-all
- It is not just a therapy
Reiki can be used as an effective method of maintaining a balanced wellbeing. It can work on a much deeper level where there may be mental and emotional blocks or imbalances which in turn could be manifesting as physical ailments also.
It is a very effective system for stress release, often altering attitudes and balancing the personality.
It also encourages people to examine their own emotional responses to others and situations allowing them to let go of of negative emotions such as anger and jealousy thus promoting the qualities of loving, caring, sharing, trusting and goodwill.
Spiritually, Reiki flows into a person’s whole body energy to help them accept and love their whole self. It encourages a non-judgemental approach to humankind, allowing them to accept every person as soul energy on it’s own spiritual path.
I find it can also help people channel emotional energy into creativity.
“If Reiki can be spread throughout the world it will touch the human heart and morals of society. It will be helpful for many people, not only healing disease, but the earth as a whole”
