Get Set to Go!

Improving mental health through sport and physical activity

Having a mental health problem should never be a barrier to enjoying fitness activities. The Get Set to Go Programme supports adults living with mental health problems to increase their levels of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The programme helps people identify and overcome the barriers that stop them being active. It helps them find the activity or sport that is right for them and offer support so they’re confident using mainstream sport and leisure facilities.

Get Set to Go is a national programme that’s currently available in eight areas in England.

Tyneside & Northumberland Mind is proud to be one of the first to deliver this programme which is supported by Sport England and the National Lottery

They draw upon local knowledge with a team of trained volunteers who understand the unique challenges that people with mental health issues face when it come to getting active.

They’re available to help people get started and provide support that helps the participants stay on track.

Who is it for?

People aged 18 or over and are living with a mental health problem. Participants don’t have to be receiving treatment and don’t need to be referred by their GP

What does it cost?

It’s FREE of charge! However there may be a small fee for certain activities depending on the provider but they will try to keep any costs to an absolute minimum.

Who do they work with?

They work closely with local sport and recreation providers to improve accessibility of services in the local area. From January 2016 they offered free training for partners so they feel more confident welcoming people with mental health issues to their sessions.
